A mistake in translating a single word may cause thousands of deaths. An unimaginable fact that mistranslation cost 80.000 lives in Japan in August 1945 proves that translating a text should be taken into consideration and done carefully. Translating a source language (SL) into a target language (TL) is problematic and not as simple as only transposing SL into TL because this activity closely relates to different cultures. Therefore, this study is aimed at analyzing the translation techniques in the English subtitle of the movie “Ketika Cinta Bertasbih 1”. This qualitative study focuses on Molina and Albir’s translation techniques used in the English movie subtitle. The primary data were collected from the dialogs and the English subtitle and selected based on the translation problems. Furthermore, the data were analyzed and interpreted descriptively to identify and explain why and how the translation techniques are used in the English subtitle. This study found that five translation techniques were used to translate the dialogs in bahasa Indonesia (SL) into English subtitle (TL). In the subtitle, this study found the use of adaptation (10 times), transposition (9 times), borrowing (7 times), generalization (3 times) and compensation (once). Those techniques were applied to solve problems in translation, such as cultural differences, in equivalence, untranslatability, and grammatical differences. This study concludes that the techniques proposed by Molina and Albir in 2002 have been a great contribution in the field of translation. The cultural problems which lead to in equivalence and untranslatability, as well as grammatical differences are no longer problematic to translators.
Covid-19 pandemic brings massive impacts to many life sectors, especially education. Schools and colleges are closed temporarily so that online learning is the only way to continue the education. Of many online platforms and media found on internet, Google Classroom provides features to support the online active learning activities. Therefore, this study is aimed at investigating the effectiveness of Google Classroom for online discussions.By involving 39 sixth-semester students of English Education Program – Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya (UNUSA), this descriptive qualitative study captured the comment threads on Google Classroom as the data to describe the number of comments and participants in online discussions. Those data were collected and interpreted to prove that the platform supported written online discussions. The results found that the total number of comments found in 14 meetings was 457 comments which were mostly dominated by the students. The findings showed the students’ increasing participation in online discussions. Google Classroom with its features enables them to minimize the psychological barriers, provide attention, support and motivation in sharing ideas in written comments. Furthermore, notifications sent automatically to the students’ Gmail account is an advantage. In conclusion, Google Classroom is effective to increase the students’ participation in online discussions. With the features provided in the online platform, the students build up more enthusiasm, motivation, attention and support to share comments and ideas during online discussions. Thus, the use of this platform should be taken as a consideration when oral discussions do not work as expected.
The unfair gender roles under patriarchal system are constructed to preserve gender inequality between men and women. Gender role practices extend gradually to maintain the male hegemony to make women powerless because female traditional gender roles (femininities) create dependency to men. Men are assigned to masculinities equipped with power, whereas women are ascribed to femininities to set boundaries that limit their movement. Yet, the increase of female awareness of gender equality has changed this situation. Gender roles are gradually shifting from traditional to modern as the opportunities to receive education and job open widely to develop women's roles that enable them to give financial contribution to the family. This study was purposed to analyze the shift in gender roles in 'The Joy Luck Club' and 'The Kite Runner'. This study used qualitative design in which Chinese traditional gender roles were described using Confucian perspective, whereas Afghan traditional gender roles were exposed in Islamic perspective. Moreover, Karl Marx's conflict theory was used to analyze the shift in gender roles in both novels. The results of study found that the construction of traditional gender roles in both China and Afghanistan was influenced mostly by patriarchy which perceives men as more superior than women. However, the dynamic changes of gender roles, especially femininities, supported by the increase of female education and occupation provide women with more power to achieve development. Further studies are encouraged to analyze other gender roles which have not discussed in this study.

The participants have had some experiences in using it. The participants are 37 students from three classes chosen through random sampling. The data was collected through questionnaire survey from the students’ responses. The data then was analyzed qualitatively. The results presented that from statement 1-10, only statement 1 (GC can accommodate e-learning) and statement 9 (GC is easy to use) which have reached 64,9% (Agree). However, it still needs to be explored further of the directly impact to the students for building their character.
