This research was conducted in July 2020 in Pelintung Industrial Area Waters, Dumai City, Riau Province. The purpose of this study was to determine the community structure of phytoplankton and zooplankton and the condition of their aquatic environment. The method used in this research is a survey method. The phytoplankton community structure shows H 'values ??ranging from 3.62 to 4.02, E values ??ranging from 0.78 to 0.85. and C values ??ranged from 0.08 to 0.12 while the zooplankton community structure values ??for H 'values ??ranged (0.0000 - 2.2140, E values ??ranged (E) (0.0000 - 0.6665), and C values ??ranged (0.2325 - 1.0000) For the abundance of phytoplankton 18.90 ind / L - 55.56 ind / L and zooplankton 10.29 - 23.05 ind / L, this value shows that the waters of the Pelintung industrial area are still relatively good, not yet polluted from being able to support biota. Nitrate concentrations in these waters range from 0.096 to 0.179 ppm while Phosphate ranges from 0.084 to 0.106 ppm.
High anthropogenic activity on the west coast of Karimun Besar Island contributes certain amount of wastes, especially plastics. Plastics will be degraded due to natural mechanism to smaller parts and known as microplastics. Small size and wide spread distribution has caused microplastics can be found widely in the waters and coastal areas. This study aims to determine type and abundance of microplastic in sediment on the west coast of Karimun Besar Island. Sampling of sediment for microplastic was determined based on hydrodynamic conditions by placing quadrat in the highest tidal boundary area. Sediment samples were collected in February 2019 using 4 inch PVC pipe from two different depth, i.e 0-10 and 10-20 cm. Separation of microplastic particles from sediments was carried out in Marine Chemistry Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science University of Riau through several stages, namely (a) drying, (b) separation of densities and (c) sorting visually. The results of the study found only 3 types of microplastic, i.e. fragments, films and fibers. Microplastic abundance in sediments was found between 1976.67-2203.33 particles/kg of sediment with fibers being the dominant type. Fiber has the highest abundance in both depths followed by films and fragments. ANOVA and t-test analysis, showed that the quantity of microplastic between stations and between two different depths were not significantly different (p > 0,05).
Pariaman City is a tourist destination in West Sumatra which in turn may be vulnerable to plastic waste pollution. This study was conducted in February 2020 in the coastal area of Pariaman City with the aim to determine the type and abundance of microplastic and to determine if there are any differences in the number of microplastics between stations and between depths of the sediment. The Survey method was applied and collected data from the field as well as from laboratory analysis were then analyzed and discussed. The results of the study showed that the type of microplastics found from the studied area were fragments, films, and fibres. The most common type found was fibre (59.01 %). The average abundance of microplastics at each station ranged from 178.89 – 235.56 particles/kg of dry sediment. The lowest abundance was at station 1 and the highest was at station 3. The average abundance of microplastic at 0-10 cm depth of dry sediment layer was 199.26 particles/kg and 220.00 particles/kg of dry sediment at 10-20 cm depth. ANOVA and t-test analysis showed that the quantity of microplastic between stations and between two different depths was not significantly different (p >0,05).
Village development planning requires information in the form of spatial data that is precise and accurate so that it can be used to analyze development needs in environmental, economic, and social aspects. It shows the limited spatial information related to village administration, village potential, and toponymy. The development of a spatial-based village potential map aims to present spatial information to be used in village development planning. The spatial map was developed through a participatory approach by involving Riau University students. Data collection was carried out with multi parties' participation, including the Geospatial Information Agency, Siak Regency Government, LPPM Riau University, and the World Research Institute. The method of developing spatial maps is done using the Avenza Maps application based on android and Arc Gis. The activity was carried out in Bunga Raya District, Siak Regency. Development activities are carried out through the stages of preparation (identification of needs and training), implementation (field mapping), and evaluation (making village spatial maps and verification). The results of developing a spatial-based village potential map showed promising results. The preparation stage resulted in identifying the components needed, such as base maps, developing student human resources by conducting training on using the Avenza Maps application. The implementation stage produces spatial coordinates of the village potential through participatory field surveys between Riau University students and the District's community/village apparatus. The evaluation stage produces spatial maps that have been verified by the Siak Regency Government, especially the village administrative boundaries. Thus, spatial mapping results can be used as a database in development planning and can be used as a baseline for spatial data for Siak Regency.
