AB ST R ACT : Turkey has a long tradition (starting with prehistoric civilizations) and experience in exploring for raw clay materials and processing them into ceramic products. Many of these products, such as tiles and sanitary ware, are manufactured for domestic and export markets. Kaolin is one of the raw materials of major importance for the ceramic and paper industry, as well as for a number of auxiliary applications. There is ongoing interest in applying kaolin in the construction industry as a raw material in the production of white cement clinker and as an artificial pozzolanic additive for concrete (in the form of metakaolin). This report presents results related to search, assessment and evaluation of available resources for advanced cement and concrete additives.
Triassic–Middle Eocene sedimentary sequences in the Central Taurids contain sufficient organic matter to constitute potential source rocks. Geochemical data are used to examine the amount, type and maturation of organic matter and the hydrocarbon potentials of the Triassic Tarasci Fm Limestone, the Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous Akkuyu Fm limestones and shales and the Middle Eocene Gumusdamla Fm shales. During the extensive Senonian and Lutetian horizontal movements, sub-thrust units of these formations attained higher maturity values in the north (Seydisehir) than in the south (Akkuyu) of the study area. , and HI values decrease with increasing thermal maturity (365–569°C). Therefore, the geochemical data indicate that the formations are gas and oil source rocks and may produce gas with some oil.
In this study, the impact behavior of patch-repaired layered composite plates was numerically investigated under low velocity impact loads. For this purpose, composite plates designed in different geometric combinations were repaired with patches using various adhesives. Impact behavior of these composites investigated by dropping the strikers with different velocities on the repaired composite plate. The laminated composite was used as the sheet and patch material, and the orientation angles were set as [0°/45°/45°/0°] for the sheet and [0°/45°] for the patch. ANSYS-Ls-Dyna finite element packet program was used for threedimensional modelling and solution. It was determined that the hexagonal patch type performs better than other patch geometries.
