ARALLELING the widespread clinical use of shock therapy, there has been a considerable amount of research on the psychological effects of electroconvulsive treatments (ECT). Nevertheless, only the gross effects of ECT have been widely observed and verified. As yet very few controlled investigations have been carried out to determine the more subtle psychological changes which might be produced.
