Reaction of the 6‐substituted 2,3‐diphenylindole (I) with chlorosulfonyl isocyanate (II) or chlorocarbonyl isocyanate (IV) and subsequent aluminum or iron trichloride catalyzed cyclization yield the tricyclic heterocycles (III) and (V).
