Among silicon dioxide (SiO 2 ) materials, quartz ceramics based on a high-concentration suspension of vitreous silica has a special place. Methods for the production of products from vitreous silica differ vastly from those accepted in the simple glass technology. This is because the high melt viscosity of silicon dioxide at temperatures in the order of 2000 . Quartz ceramics or vitreous silica-based materials, manufactured by ceramic processing are of great academic and practical interests. Quartz ceramics is traditionally produced from grinded plasma-treated vitreous silica [1,2]. This work presents methods for the production of vitreous silica using low-temperature plasma (LTP) to obtain melts produced therefrom.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
