The first synthesis of CaO-CaCO 3 pillared clay is described. Ion exchange between acid montmorillonite K 10 and a Ca(OH) 2 solution ensures the incorporation of Ca ions into the gaps between the layers of the clay, leading to the formation of metal oxide (hydroxide) clusters, which increase the interlayer spacing in the clay. Air drying is accompanied by partial carbonation of the calcium oxide. The synthesized pillared clay is stable up to 300 ° C and has an interlayer spacing of Ӎ 16 Å and a specific surface of Ӎ 100 m 2 /g.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
