Recently, the educational approaches, which provide the transferring of theoretical knowledge gained in the school into inventive ideas have attracted attention. TRIZ is one of the systematic techniques used in engineering to produce innovative products to problem solving. Systematic Inventive Problem Solving (SIPS) programme includes the main elements of ASIT which is a simplified version of TRIZ adopted for the classroom environment, brain storming, SCAMPER and CoRT. The aim of this research is to determine the effects of SIPS activities program on theoretical, experimental and real life questions and problems solving about the topic "light" and academic achievement of 7th grade elementary school students. To do this the pretest-posttest control group quasiexperimental design was used. The research was conducted on 78 elementary school 7th grade students in Umraniye, Istanbul. SIPS activities are used in the experimental group and existing curriculum was employed in control group. Data were collected using multiple choice and open-ended Light Achievement Test (LAT), which consists of theoretical, experimental and daily life problem sections. Data were analysed using SPSS statistic software. Analysis of the data resulted that a significant difference in experimental group's favour regarding in all section of the tests except multiple choice theoretical problem part. The results indicate that SIPS activities program has a positive impact on both academic success, scientific question and problem solving that require higher-order thinking skills.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
