The present study was designed to investigate the influence of Moringa oleifera on Laying Hens Performance, β-carotene, cholesterol, and minerals contents in egg yolk. Two hundred and forty 30 weeks of healthy laying hens with homogeneous body weight in a complete randomized design with four treatments and 6 replications. Laying hens were randomly divided into four groups: M0: diets without administration of Moringa oleifera leaves, M1: diets with 2% Moringa oleifera leaves; M2: diets with Moringa oleifera leaves 4%; and M3: diets with 6% Moringa oleifera leaves, respectively. Each treatment consisted of six replication cages with 10 birds randomly assigned to each cage. This study showed that administration of the Moringa leaves powder were increased significantly different on egg productions, egg mass, feed efficiencies, yolk color, shell thickness, Mg and Ca contents in eggshell, but not the efficiency of feed consumption. The administration of 2-6% Moringa leaves powder in diets results in significantly lower yolk cholesterol contents. It was concluded that supplementation of 4-6% Moringa leaves powder in diets, increased egg production, egg mass, feed efficiencies, yolk color, shell thickness, β-carotene, Mg and Ca contents in the yolk, but decreased yolk cholesterol contents in laying hens.
The study was conducted to determine the effect of the probiotics, Saccharomyces spp.Kb-5 and Saccharomyces spp.Kb-8, on growth performance, carcass characteristics, serum and meat cholesterol levels in ducks. Two hundred and forty 1-day-old healthy male ducks were randomly allocated to four treatment groups: A) basal diet (control), B) basal diet + 0.20% Saccharomyces spp.Kb-5, C) basal diet + 0.20% Saccharomyces spp.Kb-8, and D) basal diet + 0.10% Saccharomyces spp.Kb-5 + 0.10% Saccharomyces spp.Kb-8. Growth performance, carcass characteristics, and serum and meat cholesterol levels were determined when the ducks were 56 days old. Saccharomyces spp.Kb-5 and Saccharomyces spp.Kb-8, and the incombination, increased bodyweight gains, feed efficiencies and carcass weight significantly, but not affect the amount of feed consumed. The administration of Saccharomyces spp. results in significant lower serum and meat cholesterol concentrations compared to the control. It was concluded that the addition of Saccharomyces spp.Kb-5 and Saccharomyces spp.Kb-8, and the incombination, in the diet increased growth performances, feed efficiency and carcass weight, and decreased serum and meat cholesterol concentrations in male ducklings.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of carrot leaf supplementation on feed digestibility and the cholesterol and β-carotene contents of the yolks of eggs produced by Lohmann Brown laying hens. A feeding trial was conducted using 240 healthy 30-week-old laying hens kept in colony cages to evaluate the effect of dietary supplementation with carrot leaves. Carrot leaf extract (CLE) was prepared by macerating carrot leaves in distilled water (1:1, w/w). The hens were fed diets i) without carrot leaves (C0), ii) supplemented with 2% carrot leaf flour (CLF)(C1); iii) supplemented with 2% CLE(C2); and iv) supplemented with 1% CLF and 1% CLE (C3). Supplementation of CLE, CLF and in combination increased dry matter, organic matter and protein digestibility significantly. Feed efficiency was improved, and eggshell thickness, yolk colour and β-carotene content in yolk increased. Supplementation with CFL or CLE produced significantly lower serum and yolk cholesterol contents. Dietary supplementation of laying hens with CLF and CLE also increased egg production and β-carotene contents in yolk.
