Language and culture are allied and interrelated with each other as language carries culture with it while culture depends upon language. The mother language is also one of the most striking elements of any individual's life. At the same time, it also works as an integral tool in the uplift of any nation's future generations. Native language (L1)not only plays the main role in the communication process but also establishes an identity to an individual's entity as well as personality building, a certain class of the masses, and a nation at large. Mother language is a powerful element that engineers the psychological system or structure of an individual to secure the values, norms, history, and trends of a nation. This study has been carried out to focus and discuss the four significant grounds which include the development of a psychological hierarchy of a person with the help of mother tongue, nexuses of culture with mother language, the significance of mother tongue in primary education, and prevailing issues and their relevant solutions. Lastly, it is extracted that the first three elements establish basics and enclose the entire life of a person whereas; the last one nurtures as well as develops one's character, disposition, role, and part to ensure the progress of any nation through the mother tongue.
The paper reviews the historical backdrop of English language with specific identification of its various roles in academic domain. The study is aimed at highlighting spread of English language that is encountered in history since eighteenth century and is still in pace of advancement within the Asia-Pacific region. The data have been collected from different textbooks, research studies and the video documentaries on YouTube channel. Second part of this study makes sense of the turn of events and qualities of English language academic strategies in Asian Pacific nations. The paper highlights those nations that have their place in the growing circle of Kachru's (1985) model, and in the extending circle. Additionally, paper attempts to review the formative qualities of academic techniques adopted for English language within the Asian-pacific nations. Further, paper highlights qualities of English that raises its standard as global language. It tends to underlie particular role for English that is devised between social correspondences all around the planet. The crucial role of educational practices in English is to train the youth to utilise their subtle capabilities in English and readily respond in the international forums with their own proficient capacities.
The word“Literacy” has stayed alive for decades with an unchanged meaning, connotation, use, orientation and objectives. Its definition largely rests upon the teaching and learning of two basic skills: reading and writing and a brief knowledge of arithmetic. The awe-inspiring emergence and rife existence of digital tools, screen literature and digital media has significantly reshaped the concept of learning and the definition of literacy, the academicians all over the world are attempting to examine and if need be, redefine the term literacy in view of digital technology. This study was undertaken to evaluate the scope, role and influence of technology in the context of Pakistan. The data was collected from the students of English Linguistics studying at four leading Universities of Sindh including University of Sindh, Jamshoro, University of Karachi, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto University, Nawabshah by applying random sampling technique. The data was processed through descriptive and inferential statistics, and the results were drawn on the basis of achieved statistics. The results reveal that students of English Linguistics in all four varsities are fast adopting digital technology mode/form of literacy. The findings show that more than 90% students use digital media. 80% students use digital tools for research and information. Only 10% students use technology for editing and proofreading. It was also learnt from the findings that despite overwhelming use of digital form of literacy by the individual youth population in Pakistan, there is however; a significant need for the academic and other professional institutions also to adopt this innovative, current and popularly proliferating form of literacy.
