A 29 day old male infant presented with a history of fever, cough, increasing respiratory distress and abdominal distension from the 10th day of life. Examination revealed failure to thrive, marked tachypnea, pallor, hepatosplenomegaly and harsh vesicular breath sounds. Chest skiagram showed extensive broncho-pneumonic changes. As the infant did not respond to antibiotics, he was investigated for tuberculosis. The gastric aspirate smear showed plenty of acid fast bacilli (AFB) and culture showed M. tuberculosis growth. Endometrial biopsy of the mother showed tuberculous granuloma and acid fast bacilli and culture of the aspirate from endometrium grew M. tuberculosis. The need for endometrial biopsy of mothers of infants with congenital tuberculosis is highlighted.
Abstract-The optimal bidding for Genco in a deregulated power market is an involved task. The problem is formulated in the framework of Markov decision process (MDP), a discrete stochastic optimization method. When the time span considered is 24 h, the temporal difference method becomes attractive for application. The cumulative profit over the span is the objective function to be optimized. The temporal difference technique and actor-critic learning algorithm are employed. An optimal strategy is devised to maximize the profit. The market-clearing system is included in the formulation. Simulation cases of three, seven, and ten participants are considered and the obtained results are discussed.
A field experiment was conducted during rabi, 2012-13 and 2013-14 on red sandy clay loam soil to study the effect of foliar application of water soluble fertilizers on chickpea. The experiment consisted of fifteen treatments which were replicated thrice in RCB Design. Results indicated that spray of water soluble fertilizer (19:19:19) at 1.5 % concentration at flowering and pod development stage along with basal application of fertilizers (13.5: 25: 25 kg N, P 2 O 5 , K 2 O) significantly increased growth attributes, yield and benefit cost ratio in chickpea cultivation. Further increase in spray concentration up to 2.0 % did not significantly improve the performance of chickpea.
Multi-level Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) inverters are gaining importance due to the fact that the lower order harmonics in the output waveform can be eliminated without any increase in the higher order harmonics, unlike the regular two level PWM inverters. Their unique structure also allows the output to reach a high voltage level from low level of DC voltage without the use of transformers or series connected switching devices. In this paper a comparative study of the multi-level PWM inverters has been taken up. The study has been carried out for three different topologies of the multi-level inverter: diode-clamped type, flying capacitor type and cascaded inverter type. Both the single phase and 3-phase configurations have been considered for 3 as well as 51evels. Two different modulation techniques namely, DC modulation technique and sinusoidal PWM technique, as applied to multi-level inverters have been analyzed. All these circuit configurations have been modeled in the simulation software PSIM and the results of the analysis have been presented. Ultimately, conclusions have been drawn in terms of the superiority of one configuration over the other and the suitability of each of the configurations for certain applications.
