Remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) play a key role in all geospatial aspects of the assessment and management of water resources for inland fisheries and aquaculture. Lake, wetland, and reservoirs are some of the important inland water resources for potential fish production and help improve the rural economy on large scale. Fisheries development perspective reservoirs of the Tarai region are Naitaal, Tumaria, Haripura, Baur, Baigul, Dhaura, Nanaksagar, and Sardasagar, which are located at 28°25 0 -29°55 0 N latitude and 78°18 0 -79°55 0 E longitude. Waterresource assessment such as spread area, water quality, nutrient analysis, chlorophyll content, and other physico-chemica properties may be done through the mapping. Hence, remote sensing and GIS software and images like Landsat-ETM?, Landsat-8 and other multi spectral images utilization at short time frame for potential fishing zone identification, rate of sedimentation, geomorphological changes such as land cover, erosion and accretion in reservoirs as well. Thus it will help in decision making and blueprint preparation for sustainable water resource management at a cost-effective rate. The current review emphasizes the potential of high-resolution satellite images for mapping and analysis of water resources at Tarai region of Uttarakhand.
The present paper deals with the study of relative growth of fresh water prawn Macrobrachium assamensis peninsularis. Experiment was conducted to study the effect of different formulated diets. The experiment diets were prepared with similar ingredient composition with only difference in protein supplement source. The stocked animals were fed with control diet (D0) and three experimental diets (D1-D3). The food was given at 8 am and 4 pm at the rate of 5% of the total biomass. Study was conducted during July 2007- June 2008. The relative per month growth increment was observed maximum in the case of animal fed with diet D3 followed by animal fed with diet D2. It was 2.08 mm in male and 1.44 in female for per month increment in length of animal fed with diet D3 and 0.11 gm in males and 0.073 gm in females for per month increment in weight of the same group of animals. Finally concluded that formulated feed to enhanced the relative growth of both the sexes under laboratory condition.
An attempt was made to assess the sedimentation in Nanak Sagar reservoir using multi-dated Remote Sensing (RS) images. IRS LISS III and Landsat-8 (OLI) remote sensing data were taken in the year 2007 and 2015, respectively. The original capacity curve (1962) was optimized for the study of the capacity loss to various water levels. Results showed that the morphology of the reservoir has been changed significantly due to sedimentation from 1962 to 2015. The reservoir has lost a total of 2934.64 hectares (ha) by dint of sedimentation which is accounted for 59.89 % of the total water spread area during last 53 years and average deposition was computed as 1.13% per year. From the year1962 to 2007 maximum siltation deposited in Full Storage Level (FRL) of the reservoir and from 2007 to 2015 in Dead Storage Level (DRL)in the period 2007 to 2015. It can be concluded that multi-dated remote sensing images can be used as a valuable tool for the study of temporal as well as spatial changes in any large water body.
