:In 2021, the American College of Gastroenterology updated its diagnosis and treatment guideline for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This article provides a summary of noteworthy changes to the guideline and describes clinical pearls that are pertinent to the diagnosis and treatment of GERD in primary care.
