Exacerbation of pain during coitus is a prevalent issue among low back pain patients. A novel biomechanical analysis was performed to describe and compare male spine kinematics across 5 common coital positions. Initial recommendations of coital positions to avoid were developed for types of motion- and posture-intolerant male patients.
The findings provided here may guide the clinician's specific recommendations, including alternative coital positions and/or movement patterns or suggesting a lumbar support, depending on the female LBP patient's specific motion and posture intolerances.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
