Domestic research in the fields of culture, communications and media has not mostly dealt with the ideological and political aspects of popular TV programs and their role in forming dominant cultural patterns in the second half of the twentieth century. Therefore, this paper represents an attempt to refocus the attention of researchers to profounder readings of ideological and discursive meanings of the popular television culture of the Yugoslav era, and the TV series The Sacrificed (Otpisani) has been chosen for such a new and different view and analysis. Although made in the widely established discourse of the Yugoslav community and socialism, with the substantial financial funds and creative force of the creators of the project, it also announces discursive rifts of different orders and great socio-historical cuts. Also, it establishes new cultural patterns in the building of cultural identity and collective memory of several generations raised on the former Yugoslav territory.

The paper deals with the demographic topics of ageing, age and the elderly people in Europe. Seeing as these topics still take up marginal space in most research fields except gerontology, the aim of the paper is to deepen the thematic framework. Because of that, but also because it is difficult to reach more detailed data on generations over 65 in Europe, this paper will present the results of the research on the basic socio-demographic characteristics of elderly people in 11 European countries. The data on which this research is based comes from the last waves of census; they were harmonized and obtained in the LIS center of the University of Luxembourg. The data show the basic socio-demographic characteristics classified into three groups: where do people over 65 live, with whom do older than 65 live, how do older than 65 live. The data also show that in northern and western countries, which are economically more developed, the elderly population lives in cities more. The number of households with one elderly member in rural areas increases in Central Europe, and the highest percentage of those older than 65 in rural areas live in Greece and Serbia. The connection between certain countries and the education level of the elderly is statistically meaningful. Therefore, in northern and western countries, which are more developed, there are more highly educated elderly people than in less developed countries in Central and South Europe.
The topic of this article is the phenomenon of double, namely cross or additive discrimination against senior women in the media sphere. Many studies and articles are devoted to ageism, discrimination against the elderly and gender inequality as discrimination against women. Rarely and hardly ever in Serbia, research is focused on the topic of gender differences that determine the quality of life in old age. While some believe that gender inequality and stereotypes end with age, which is in itself a basis for discrimination, and that gender differences are equalized, others believe that gender differences are particularly pronounced in old age, especially when considering marginalized elderly populations such as elderly people belonging to the Roma nationality, people with disabilities, LGBT people and HIV-positive people. This article is a comprehensive literature review article. The authors applied theoretical and interpretative methods of research, discursive and critical thematic analysis. The interpretative method is based on the meanings and representation of different aspects of the issue. The main finding of this article is the existence and prevalence of a gap and contradiction between the reality of longer and better quality of life and outdated media representation of old age, especially of elderly women.
