Background:The methanolic extract of Sargassum ilicifolium (Pheophyceae) was used to evaluate its analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity in the present study.Materials and Methods:Analgesic activity was tested using Acetic acid writhing method and Eddy hot plate method in Male albino mice and Wister rats respectively at a dose level of 1, 10, 50, 100mg/kg p.o. At the same dose, its anti-inflammatory activity was also tested using Carrageenan induced rat paw edema method Result Acetic acid writhing test and Eddy's hot plate episodes were significantly and dose dependently reduced. Carrageenan (a standard inflammatory agent) induced paw edema in rats was significantly reduced after intraperitonal administration of methanolic extract. Results:showed dose dependant significant activity in comparison with standard and control. Conclusion:Methanolic extracts of the brown seaweeds Sargassum ilicifolium have potent analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity at moderate doses.
ABSTRACT. The present study is synthesis of derivatives of N'-(4-amino-5-sulfanyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-yl)-2-(1H-benzimidazole-2-ylsulfanyl) acetohydrazide (IV). Antibacterial activity tested against the E. coli and A. Substilis. Biological activities conducted by disc diffusion method. Compound 2MB1, 2MB3, 2MB5 inhibit the appreciable microbial growth while rest of the compound possess the moderate activities. Anti-inflammatory activity tested by reduces local edema induced in the rat paw by injection of phlogestic agent. Compound 2MB1, 2MB8, 2MB5, 2MB3 and 2MB6 exhibit satisfying anti-inflammatory activity while analgesic activity conducted by acetic acid induced writhing effect in mice while compound 2MB1, 2MB4 and 2MB7 having the good analgesic activity. The chemical structures of all newly synthesized compounds were confirmed by their IR, 1 H NMR and mass spectral data.
Benzimidazole is the heterocyclic compound which contains a phenyl ring fused to an imidazole ring, Benzimidazole analogs are of crucial importance because of their different clinical applications and biological activity. Benzimidazoles are known as an optimistic class of bioactive heterocyclic compounds possessing a wide variety of biological activities. Benzimidazole derivatives play an important role in medical field with so many pharmacological activities such as antimicrobial, antiviral, anticancer activity, antioxidant, antiparasitic, antiproliferative, antitumor, anti-HIV, anticonvulsant, antiprotozoal, analgesic and anti-inflammatory, antihypertensive, anticancer, androgen receptor antagonist, vasorelaxant etc. This review is summarized to understand the chemistry of various derivatives of substituted benzimidazoles with their pharmacological activities.
