Sheetada is the early stage of periodontal diseases. This occurs due to negligence of oral hygiene, changing life-style, habits, and addictions. It is Kapha Rakta Pradhana Vyadhi. In modern dentistry papillary or marginal gingivitis can be correlated with Sheetada, on the basis of similarities in symptoms, involvement of anatomical structure, etiology and prognosis. The epidemiological studies conducted by American Academy of Periodontology shows that gingivitis of varying severities is nearly universal. It is estimated that over 80% of the world's population suffers from gingivitis. In this clinical study, 106 patients were registered among them 103 completed the treatment and were randomly divided by lottery method into two groups. In Group-A, Dashana Samskara paste local application on gums and in Group-B, Dashana Samskara Choorna Pratisarana on gums was given. After enrollment of the patients in the study cardinal symptoms of Sheetada (gingivitis) such as, Raktasrava, Krishnata, Prakledata, Mriduta, Mukhadaurgandhya, and also the objective criteria such as oral hygiene index, Gingival Index (GI-S), and Gingival Bleeding Index (GBI-S) were studied before and after the treatment. While considering comparative effect on subjective parameters such as Raktasrava, Dantamamsa Shiryamanata, Shotha and Chalata statistically significant results were obtained in Group-A than Group-B. In objective parameters such as, GI-S and GBI-S also showed statistically significant results in Group-A. Observations in follow-up study confirmed that the recurrence rate in the Group-Awas significantly lesser than the Group-B.
Objective:There have been various studies suggesting relationship between ABO blood groups and different systemic diseases. However, there is scarcity of literature available in assessing the association of blood group phenotypes to periodontal diseases.
Background: Oral diseases are a major public health concern owing to their high prevalence and their effects on the individual's quality of life. Although many studies have been carried out from time to time to assess the knowledge and behaviour of people about oral health, there is still a lack of awareness and practice regarding the same. Aim: To assess oral hygiene awareness among patients visiting the Department of Periodontology at Government Dental College and Hospital, Jamnagar Materials & Methods:Across-sectional study was carried out among 500 patients visiting the Department of Periodontology at Government Dental College and Hospital, Jamnagar. Subjects were selected using a convenient sampling technique and were asked to ll a self-constructed questionnaire consisting questions regarding awareness and practices related to oral hygiene. Responses from the patients were evaluated in terms of numbers and percentages. Results: The results of the study showed an acute lack of oral hygiene awareness and limited knowledge of oral hygiene practices as well as effect of poor oral hygiene on systemic health. Conclusion: There is an urgent need for comprehensive educational programs to promote good oral hygiene and impart education about correct oral hygiene practices
Introduction: Periodontitis is an inammatory disease of the soft and hard support tissues of tooth in response to the supra and subgingival microorganisms. In women with periodontitis, the infected periodontal tissues may act as reservoirs of bacteria and their products that can disseminate to the foetus-placental unit causing adverse pregnancy outcomes like preterm birth. This is a cross sectional survey carried out to Aim: access the level of knowledge, attitude, practice and awareness of Gynecologists in Jamnagar district regarding periodontal health and its correlation with adverse pregnancy outcomes. An online structured questionnaire had bee Materials and method: n made and was distributed through social media, responses were collected for a period of 3 months and the collected data were then subjected to statistical analysis. Result: Out of 64 participants, 44.88% of the gynecologists answered that regular screening of pregnant patients for periodontal disease is needed and 43.75% agree that dental treatment during pregnancy can reduce pregnancy complications. Only 65.63% were aware of the association between APO (adverse pregnancy outcomes) and periodontal disease. Collaborative treatment Conclusion: by gynaecologists and dentists help to improve the maternal oral health, reduce the postnatal complications and increases awareness among pregnant women regarding oral hygiene and regular dental check-up during pregnancy.
Introduction: Periodontal diseases have a multifactorial etiology but some risk factors like genetics also can be responsible for disease progression. These dermal ridge patterns remain unchanged throughout the life .They are unique for each individual, it can be considered as a benecial tool for prediction of any congenital, intrauterine anomalies or other diseases which inuenced by genetic alterations .Genetic determinants that exist could be suggestive of specic dermatoglyphic patterns for periodontitis. To analyze the palmar dermatoglyphic Aim: patterns of healthy and chronic periodontitis patients and to nd any correlation between them. A total of 150 patients were Materials & Methods: equally divided into two groups comprising 75 patients in each group as follows: Group I-periodontally healthy, Group II-chronic periodontitis. The ngerprint patterns of all the patients in each group were obtained and analyzed with the help of magnifying glass. There was a Results: signicantly higher percentage of whorls in Group II compared to Group I. There was no signicant difference between both the groups for arch patterns. There can be a signicant correlation between the dermatoglyphic pa Conclusion: ttern of healthy and the chronic periodontitis as whorl nger pattern predominates in chronic periodontitis patients. So it can be serve as predictor in identifying the risk group individuals of chronic periodontitis.
