Norbornadiene (NBD) has been successfully polymerized in benzene solvent in high yield (up to 100%) using AlCl 3 as initiator. Anionic polymerization of the same compound was achieved using butyllithium as initiator. According to the IR and NMR data, both polymers have a 2,6-disubstituted nortricyclene structure. The cationic polymerization gave an amorphous polymer; the anionic polymerization resulted in the formation of a crystalline product showing higher stability.
New aroyl thioureas; N-nicotinoyl-N'-(4-nitrophenyl) thiourea (3a) and N-nicotinoyl-N'-(2-nitrophenyl) thiourea (3b) were synthesized and studied as anion-binding receptors. Upon adding tetrabutyl ammonium halides (fluoride, chloride bromide and iodide), cyanide and hydroxide ions to their solutions in DMSO respectively, the colour of the solutions has shown striking changes from pale yellow to brillant yellow or red. The binding effects of the anions were investigated by UV-VIS spectroscopic method and 1 H NMR titrations.
ABSTRACT:A new polyester, poly[ethylene 7-(N-pyrrolidinyl)-2,7-cycloheptadiene-1,2-dicarboxylate] and its lithium triflate complex have been successfully synthesized and characterized in detail. Solution studies (viscosity and electronic spectroscopy) were realized in two different solvent mixtures, dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO)/dimethyl formamide (DMF) (1:1 v/v) and DMSO/ p-chlorophenol ( p-CP) (1:1 v/v). DMSO/ p-CP was a better solvent mixture to obtain Li + ion-doped polyester. FTIR spectra supported the complex formation. According to viscosimetric measurements the polymer was a low molecular weight polyester. In DTG analysis, the polymer decomposed by a multi-step process whereas two-step decomposition was observed for polymer-Li + ion complex. The glass transition temperature of the polyester and its Li + complex were determined as 345• C and 360• C respectively by means of DSC analysis.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
