As one of the most important economic activities to small households of Vietnam, tea production is hindered by low productivity, rising of production costs, and bad agriculture practices. To sustain tea production, the near-term strategy is to improve the efficiency of resource utilization. To our knowledge, this article is the first study to evaluate the tea production's resource use efficiency and to identify the factors affecting it in Vietnam. The data was collected from 243 randomly selected tea farmers in the Northern mountainous region of Vietnam. The study first applied a translog stochastic production frontier model and technical efficiency (TE) technique to estimate resources use efficiency, and then used a Tobit model to identify the factors affecting these efficiencies among tea farms. Based on the mean sum of output elasticity with respect to inputs (0.323), we found that increasing the utilization of resources in the study site was inappropriate. The study also revealed that the average input-oriented TE of tea farms was lower than that of output-oriented TE, 82.21% versus 92.29%, suggesting that the farmers had more ability to reduce resource use than to increase current output level. The results showed that the tea farmers could use resources more efficiently by reducing 17.79% of the current application level without compromising the output. The study also indicates that concerted efforts from government to increase farmers' accessing extension service, widening soil and water conservation practice, and spreading farmers' awareness on water scarcity is the key to improve farmers' resource use efficiency.
Despite increasing recognition of the importance of maintaining environmental public goods such as rural landscapes and their ecological systems, it remains challenging to implement a management system where the value of maintaining such public goods is reflected by a means of a support payment. We proposed a tourism model for the regional promotion of footpaths as the main axis in the "Agri-culture System" designated as part of the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS). Applying a Contingent Valuation Method, we asked walkers how much they were willing to contribute to various GIAHS-related activities through volunteering in addition to the participation fee for the walk. We hypothesized that the diverse means and activities to support conservation would contribute to sustainable management of GIAHS. The research findings showed that walkers had options to choose which activity to support. For track maintenance, WTC L in volunteering is 4.23 days a year. In the case of walkers who had no options, their Willingness to Contribute in Labor (WTC L ) by volunteering is 3.34 days a year. To link the regional resources used for tourism with GIAHS require their effective management and conservation. Thus, it is desirable to formulate a combined approach such as payments by users of the trails and contributions through volunteer activities.
Thai Nguyen and Lam Dong provinces are two biggest ares of Vietnam to have tea crops planting. Farmers produce various tea products and among them, Green tea contains polyphenols and catechins as well as caffeine, but green tea has less caffeine than coffee, and many extracts are
decaffeinated. Our research goal is to find out real situation of tea planting in Vietnam in the concept of sustainable agricultural development in Vietnam and recommendations and marketing 4P solutions for agriculture and tea products, with the using of both qualitative analysis and regression
-quantitative model in order to identify barriers for tea crops and planting as well as management issues of agricultural value chain.
Research results show us that CPI and R (lending rate) and Risk free rate (Rfj have negative correlation with tea export price, while GDP growth
has positive impacts.
Next, the State plays an important role in supporting and promoting contractual linkages. Government policies must hold farmers and businesses accountable for the performance of the contract. In Vietnam, with a still agricultural fragmented, backward, the link
between farmers and businesses is still loose, the determination of The right direction and support of the Government will create a great impetus to promote development economic links between businesses and farmers.
Our research limitation is that we can expand for other crops, industries
and markets as well.
