In ICU patients admitted for severe CAP, initial PCT values could be an interesting predictor for complications and mortality.

HVHF decreased vasopressor requirement and tended to increase urine output in septic shock patients with renal failure. However, a larger trial is required to confirm our results and perhaps to show a benefit in survival.

Increased PCT from day 1 to day 3 in severe CAP is a poor prognosis factor. A PCT level less than 0.95 ng/ml on day 3 in intubated patients is associated with a favorable outcome.
