This study verified the observation that maxillary complete denture base show the greatest discrepancy at the central portion of the posterior palatal seal region as the processing temperature increases.
Background: The absence of external ear may be due to congenital, traumatic, or surgical causes. Many case reports only describe impression techniques to record details of the defect side and the natural ear. The purpose of this case report is to explain in detail simple clinical and laboratory procedures involved in fabrication of ear prosthesis. Case Description and Methods: The use of three-part mold helps in the application of pigmented silicone in specific areas. The use of direct adhesive fixation provides the best esthetic result and if properly used the most satisfactory form of treatment. Findings and Outcomes:The patient was satisfied with the life-like appearance of the prosthesis. The use of direct adhesive fixation gave the patient a sense of security and improved his confidence. Conclusion:The technique described is economical, and additional steps of implant placement are avoided. The esthetics of the prosthesis made by hand carved clay pattern provides good details. Clinical relevanceThe technique describes the method of direct adhesive fixation of the prosthesis giving it a life-like appearance. The confidence of the patient is also restored.
Background: Orientation of the occlusal plane is one of the most important clinical procedures in the prosthodontic rehabilitation of edentulous patients but definitions of the ala-tragus line (ATL) causes confusion, because the exact points of reference for this line are not clear. Aim:The aim of this study was to corroborate a correlation between Camper's plane and natural occlusal plane in normal dentulous subjects and to ascertain the most relevant posterior reference point for establishing Camper's plane. Materials and methods:In this study, 40 subjects with complete natural dentition and Angel's Class I occlusal relationship were selected. The subjects were photographed in sitting erect posture with head unsupported while clenching on a fox plane. The angles between the following lines were measured using digital screen protractor, the occlusal plane and Ala to superior border of tragus, the occlusal plane and Ala to middle border of tragus, as well as occlusal plane and Ala to inferior border of tragus. Descriptive statistics, one sample t-test and, independent t-test were done to analyze the data. Results:There was no parallelism between the occlusal plane and ATL with three different posterior ends and one sample t-test showed that the angles between them were significantly different from zero (p < 0.001). However, the inferior border of the ATL had the lowest mean angle, 1.99° (4.32) and was almost parallel to the occlusal plane.Conclusion: Ala-tragus line from Ala of the nose to the inferior border of tragus as a posterior reference point can be considered as a reliable occlusal plane for complete denture fabrication.
Introduction:The positional shift observed in removable die systems before and after sectioning the master cast may result in a cast restoration with improper occlusal and proximal contacts and marginal fit, thereby requiring time-consuming chairside adjustments.Aim: This study was done to evaluate the relative accuracy of three commercially available removable die systems with different configurations by measuring the average die displacement before and after sectioning of the cast. Materials and methods:A total of 60 impressions were made of the standardized brass master model using polyvinylsiloxane. Impressions were divided into three groups. For each group, a different removable die system was used. Group I: cross pin; group II: M R pin; and group III: conventional brass dowel pin. The presectioning measurement both in the horizontal and vertical directions of all the 60 casts obtained were made using profile projector. The casts were then sectioned and removed and replaced 30 times, and the postsectioning measurements were made using the same references. The differences between the presectioning and the postsectioning measurements were calculated Statistical analysis used: The data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's multiple comparison test.Results: All the three die systems exhibited displacement both in the horizontal and vertical directions before and after sectioning the casts. Brass dowel pin exhibited the greatest amount of displacement both in the horizontal and vertical directions. Conclusion:The use of more than one pin and the presence of metallic or plastic sleeves can result in improved accuracy and stability of the die system.
