A 69-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital for surgical treatment of a mediastinal mass. Midsternotomy was performed which revealed a saccular aneurysm of the superior vena cava, 6 cm in diameter, in the right superior mediastinum. Aneurysmectomy was done by dividing a 15 X 10 mm venous connection with the superior vena cava and the patient's postoperative course was uneventful.
Usually chylothorax has been terated conservatively. However, severe cases complicated by hypoproteinemia and electrolyte inbalance have sometimes been fatal, so that untritionally adequate therapy has been required.Hyperalimentation and local intrathoracic OK432 injection were effective for suppressing leakage of chyle in the treatment of the above patients. Moreover, chylothorax in the neonate with esophageal atresia easily controlled.-78-
