We present two cases of syphilitic cervical lymphadenitis with a hard chancre at the angle of the mouth. Case 1: The patient was a 46-year-old man. A medical examination revealed an indurated ulcer at the left angle of the mouth, with lymph node swelling in the left side of the neck. The swollen cervical lymph nodes were immobile and elastic hard on palpation, with tenderness. CT images revealed multiple swollen lymph nodes around the left submandibular gland and in both the deep cervical and the left supraclavicular lymph nodes. Serological examination revealed elevated RPR (3+), TPHA test (2+), and FTA-ABS test (+) values.Cervical lymphadenitis due to primary syphilis was diagnosed. Case 2: The patient was a 33-year-old man.A medical examination revealed an indurated ulcer at the right angle of the mouth and swollen lymph nodes in the right side of the neck. CT images showed multiple swollen lymph nodes in the anterior portion of the right submandibular gland and in both the deep cervical and submental regions. Serological examinations revealed elevated TPHA test (2+) and FTA-ABS test (+) values. Syphilitic lymphadenitis was diagnosed.
:Lipoma is one of the non-epithelial benign tumors occasionally seen on the oral cavity. However, symmetric lipomatosis is relatively rare disease in the oral cavity. A case of symmetric lipomatosis of the tongue is reported. The patient was a 73-year-old male who complained of a bilateral swelling of the tongue. The tongue of the patient was markedly enlarged with somewhat nodular appearance in the lateral borders, presenting as a macroglossia. Adipose tissues were interspersed with the muscles fibers and distinct capsule formation was not found clinically and histopathologically. The patient was finally diagnosed as having symmetric lipomatosis of the tongue.
We report a case of Hodgkin' s lymphoma that involved the maxillary gingiva and bilateral cervical lymph nodes. The patient was an 89-year-old woman who complained about an ulcer in the right maxillary gingiva and swelling of the right cheek. Biopsy specimens taken from the gingiva showed typical Reed-Sternberg (RS) cells within a composite inflammatory milieu. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the RS cells were positive for CD30, CD15, and CD20, and in situ hybridization analysis revealed that the cells were also positive for EBER1. Thus the disease was finally diagnosed as mixed cellularity Hodgkin' s lymphoma.
