PurposeThis study aims to apply new modifications by changing the nonlinear logarithmic calculation steps in the method based on the removal effects of criteria (MEREC) method. Geometric and harmonic mean from multiplicative functions is used for the modifications made while extracting the effects of the criteria on the overall performance one by one. Instead of the nonlinear logarithmic measure used in the MEREC method, it is desired to obtain results that are closer to the mean and have a lower standard deviation.Design/methodology/approachThe MEREC method is based on the removal effects of the criteria on the overall performance. The method uses a logarithmic measure with a nonlinear function. MEREC-G using geometric mean and MEREC-H using harmonic mean are introduced in this study. The authors compared the MEREC method, its modifications and some other objective weight determination methods.FindingsMEREC-G and MEREC-H variants, which are modifications of the MEREC method, are shown to be effective in determining the objective weights of the criteria. Findings of the MEREC-G and MEREC-H variants are more convenient, simpler, more reasonable, closer to the mean and have fewer deviations. It was determined that the MEREC-G variant gave more compatible findings with the entropy method.Practical implicationsDecision-making can occur at any time in any area of life. There are various criteria and alternatives for decision-making. In multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) models, it is a very important distinction to determine the criteria weights for the selection/ranking of the alternatives. The MEREC method can be used to find more reasonable or average results than other weight determination methods such as entropy. It can be expected that the MEREC method will be more used in daily life problems and various areas.Originality/valueObjective weight determination methods evaluate the weights of the criteria according to the scores of the determined alternatives. In this study, the MEREC method, which is an objective weight determination method, has been expanded. Although a nonlinear measurement model is used in the literature, the contribution was made in this study by using multiplicative functions. As an important originality, the authors demonstrated the effect of removing criteria in the MEREC method in a sensitivity analysis by actually removing the alternatives one by one from the model.
PurposeConsidering the contribution of freight villages (FVs) to the economy and sector, transportation cost advantage, environmental externalities, labor costs, employment, etc. criteria evaluation is important in selecting FV location. Environmental sustainability and social dimensions are becoming important criteria for companies in logistics. The purpose of the study is to determine/model the criteria interaction and also determine the criteria priorities in the FV location selection process. Meanwhile, the study aims to evaluate these criteria and present information to researchers and decision makers.Design/methodology/approachSix main criteria and 29 sub-criteria are selected from related literature. Decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method is used for determining/modeling the criteria interaction and sketching interaction diagram, and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is used for determining the criteria priorities. One/two-way pairwise compared main/sub-criteria views are obtained from 48 experts for calculations.Findings“Trade potential”, “transportation networks” and “economic factors” have the highest priorities, respectively, out of six main criteria, and they have the most powerful interactions that put these criteria to the center of decision process. Sub-criteria of “foreign trade potential”, “proximity to the port”, “market opportunities” and “proximity to the railway” out of 29 have a total 36.42% priority, more than one-third of the importance.Originality/valueCriteria are evaluated in FV location selection for FV sustainability using criteria interaction diagrams, affecting/being affected by the level of each criterion and their priorities. This study shows a hybrid derivation from DEMATEL-AHP usage methods together. High-volumed and qualified/experienced expert group judgments in Turkey are evaluated.
Sağlık hizmetlerinin gün geçtikçe önemi artmaktadır. Son yıllarda dünya genelinde yaşanan pandemi nedeniyle sağlık sektörünün gerekliliği ve erişilebilirliğinin önemi daha da çok anlaşılmıştır. Türkiye’nin 81 ilinde 1534 hastane, 251.182 yatak ve 171.229 hekimle hizmetler sunulmaktadır. Sağlığın hizmet özelliği olması nedeniyle sunulan hizmetler yıllara, alanlara, ülkelere, bölgelere ve hastanelere göre farklılaşmakta ve güncellenmektedir. Şehirlere göre ve hastanelere göre sunulan hizmetler değişiklik gösterebilmektedir. Bu çalışmada Türkiye’nin 81 ilinin sağlık hizmetleri açısından performansını değerlendirmek amaçlanmıştır. Sağlık hizmetleri konusunda uygun görülen 21 kriter ve 81 şehir alternatifi kullanılmıştır. Kriter ağırlıklarını belirlemek için klasik ve güncel yöntemlerden MEREC, LOPCOW, Standart Sapma, CRITIC ve Entropi yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Kriter ağırlıkları farklı yöntemlere göre belirlenmiş ve bütünleştirilmiştir. Alternatifleri sıralamak için klasik ve güncel yöntemlerden COPRAS, EDAS, TOPSIS, MOORA, MOOSRA, CODAS, OCRA ve ROV yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Farklı sıralama yöntemlerinin sonuçları uzlaşık çözüm için BORDA yöntemiyle bütünleştirilmiştir. Kriterlerin, alternatiflerin ve yöntemlerin çeşitliliği çalışmaya orijinallik katmaktadır. Bulgulara göre 21 kriter arasından nitelikli yatak oranı (%8,06) kriteri ilk sırada bulunmuş, ardından asistan hekim sayısı (%6,80) kriteri yer almıştır. Alternatiflerden İstanbul ilk sırada bulunurken, ardından Ankara ve İzmir sıralanmıştır. İlk 25 sıralama büyükşehirlerden oluşmuş, ancak bu sıralamada diğerlerinden öne geçen (büyükşehir olmayan) Isparta 15. sırada, Elâzığ 19. sırada bulunmuştur.
Companies plan their procurement, transportation, and storage needs that will provide more benefit according to the constantly changing customer demands and increasing competition. The logistics sector in Europe ranks 3rd in the economic sectors table with a total turnover of 836 billion Euros. Logistics villages (LV), which have developed with the importance of logistics sector, provide significant gains in global markets due to their contribution to the trade of the country/region. It is important which variables will be used in determining LV's locations, considering the transportation possibilities of LV's, the storage areas to be created, and employment. The study aims to determine variables taken into account in LV location selection with benchmarking approach and to provide information to researchers and decision-makers. As a result of the research, it was decided to evaluate the LV location selection process based on 6 factors and 29 sub-criteria. It has been suggested that the trade potential factor and related variables should be taken into consideration in LV location selection decisions.
PurposeThe purpose of the study is the evaluation of choosing the determined logistics centers’ (LCs’) locations via Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods.Design/methodology/approachSince there is more than one criterion in the evaluation of LC location, MCDM methods are used. The Entropy and CRiteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation (CRITIC) methods are used to determine the main criteria and sub-criteria weights. The Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluation (PROMETHEE) method is used for ranking and evaluating 12 alternatives in Turkey and sensitivity analysis according to the threshold values of criteria and preference functions.FindingsPossible LC alternatives in Turkey and 12 locations ranked. Changing the criteria weights at a significant level did not affect the ranking results much. In the sensitivity analysis of the criteria for which market data could not be obtained (scored by the experts) it is found that they either made no difference or made little difference in the ranking of the alternatives.Practical implicationsIn terms of sustainability, economic factors along with environmental and social dimensions are important criteria for logistics companies and LC. The use of these variables in the LC location selection makes a difference.Originality/valueThis study focuses on LC location selection, via PROMETHEE with evaluated preference functions for criteria, taking into account nine scenarios that use variable criteria weight calculated via different MCDM methods. The results are evaluated by using sensitivity analysis and taking into account the sustainability aspect for LC. Multiple methods have been used effectively together in a way that support each other.
