Reaction of methyl aroylpyruvates with 4-aminobenzolsulfonylguanidine in acetic acid in the presence of anhydrous sodium acetate afforded N-(4-guanidylsulfonylphenyl)amides of 4-aryl-2-hydroxy-4oxo-2-butenoic acids. Antibacterial activity of the synthesized compounds was studied.
