The versatility of philosophy manifests itself clearly in the historical context, when the discord of thinkers merges into a single intellectual stream. Everyone's biography is a creative odyssey that runs through the stormy sea of his modern era. On this path, the "provincial" or "metropolitan" origin of the philosopher is not so significant. Much more significant is the image that remains in the memory of contemporaries as a milestone of the pillar road of philosophical thought. The article presents the material of a conversation with Professor R.L. Livshits, organized on the eve of his 75th anniversary. Small strokes indicate the stages of his creative path, philosophical maturation from a student to Doctor of Science. The twists and turns of his creative destiny, which reflected the very breath of the Soviet era, are shown. Within the framework of the intellectual meeting, the issues of ethics of scientific work, demarcation of science and non-science, modernization of the Russian education system were touched upon. The polemical pages of the intellectual biography of the Far Eastern philosopher are highlighted and the problem of choosing a strategy for the development of the Russian North and the Far East is also considered.
