The authors of the article discuss some aspects of inclined tunnel escalators in St. Petersburg metro, related to the aging of the equipment and the necessity of its replacement in accordance with the new regulations; they propose some options for solving the existing problems.
Secure work of escalators could be achieved and maintained by two ways: by designing new models of escalators with modern technologies at the basis, as well as by constant control over existing escalators working conditions during exploitation period. Authors show that the introduction of new regulatory requirements has asked for improving the design of escalators with the decrease of their lateral dimension in order to accommodate four machines in a tunnel.
Authors also proposed methods of examining technical conditions of escalators at the final stage of their service life with the aim of extending it as well as for periodic evaluation of their technical condition using magnetic and magneto-acoustic technology in addition to the usual procedures.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
