Breonadia salicina is an ethnomedicinal plant used in North Central Nigeria to treat sleeping sickness and respiratory diseases. The stem bark of the plant was extracted with methanol and the extract partitioned between dichloromethane and water. The dichloromethane soluble portion was subjected to column chromatography which resulted in the isolation of 7-(β-Dapiofuranosyl (1-6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl) umbelliferone, α-amyrin, stigmasterol, 7hydroxycoumarin and 6-hydroxy-7-methoxy coumarin. The structures of these compounds were elucidated based on NMR spectral analysis. This is the first report of these compounds from the plant.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
