Turkey is in seismically active region, so many earthquakes occur in this country in the last decades. Ancient worship buildings are vulnerable to seismic activity, as many historical buildings. So, it is important to understand that building’s behavior under seismic actions. In this paper, fifteen masonry worship building has been selected which are located and built-in different region in Antalya. The main reason for the paper is to assess the seismic vulnerability of worship building by using a new approximate method. The method which is proposed in this paper aims at a simple and fast procedure based on a simplified geometric approach for immediate screening of masonry buildings at risk.
Seismic structural design of X-braced steel buildings using life cycle cost analysis aims to reveal the most appropriate structural solution for both satisfying economic aspects and earthquake resistant design code requirements among a number of variant solutions accounting architectural concerns. In this study, five storey X-braced steel building with three different X-bracing configurations is designed using various base shear values and the total cost of each design of three configurations is calculated for different earthquake intensities. Initial costs and the cost of the expected damages caused by future earthquakes are determined for each X-bracing configuration. The maximum interstorey drift ratio is selected as seismic performance parameter for satisfying earthquake code demands and evaluated through nonlinear static analysis. The optimum X-bracing configuration is determined by using the balance between the initial cost and the lifetime earthquake damage cost.
Historical buildings are important to cultural heritage as they carry their many features to the next generation. These structures are evidence displaying the history, reflecting people's behaviors and culture in the past, as well. The mosques are one of the masterpieces of Islamic culture concerning their structural and architectural properties. The present study focuses on the structural behaviors' historical masonry buildings in Turkey. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the structural behavior of the domed mosque and to determine the static and dynamic effects. For this purpose, Afyon Sandıklı Ulu Mosque has been numerically modeled and it has been numerically analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the behavior of the structure under the earthquake effects is obtained. The most affected parts of the structure are determined, and the structural behavior is examined depending on the displacement and stresses over the structure. Finally, assessments on the mosque has been made about the obtained results.
