Introduction: Obesity is thought to lead to increased failure rates following total hip arthroplasty (THA). Site-specific fat distribution has been suggested to be a better indicator of risk, compared to body mass index. Fat thickness measurement methods were developed for total knee arthroplasty, however, there is limited data on the methods for THA. The aim of this study was to assess the interobserver and intraobserver reliability of a newly defined radiographic subcutaneous fat thickness ratio and investigate the correlation of this ratio with early failure following THA. Methods: 321 patients who underwent primary THA at a single institution between 2014 and 2017, with at least 1-year of follow-up and a preoperative pelvis anteroposterior x-ray radiograph were included in this study. A high hip fat thickness ratio (HFTR) was arbitrarily defined as ⩾2. Early failure was defined as revision or re-operation for any reason and death related to operation first year following THA. Results: The HFTR was shown to have excellent intraobserver and interobserver reliability. High HFTR was associated with higher risk of early failure following THA (odds ratio 3.8, [95% confidence interval, 1.2–12.1], p < 0.05). The same association persisted when HFTR was analysed as a continuous variable ( p < 0.01) and in multivariate analysis ( p < 0.05). Conclusions: HFTR can be used to assess periarticular soft tissue distribution and may be regarded as a useful and reproducible tool for assessing risk of early failure following THA.

Objective: The aim of study was to evaluate depression and impulsivity in obese people with binge eating disorder (BED). Method:The study included 149 obese study participants who were compared to 151 non-obese healthy controls. They were assessed with the Structured Clinical Interview (SCID-I), Eating Attitudes Test (EAT), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11 (BIS-11). Results:The prevalence of BED was 47.6% in the obese study participants. Obesity with BED was more common in female participants. Depressive disorder was detected in 41.2% of the obese subjects. There was no significant difference between BED (+) and BED (-) groups with respect to depressive disorder (p>0.05).The cognitive impulsivity and non-planning activity scores of the depressive group were significantly higher than for the participants without depression (p<0.05). The cognitive impulsivity scores of depressive obese participants were significantly higher than for obese participants without depression (p<0.05).Conclusion: Obesity appears to be associated with depression rather than impulsivity. Impulsivity was found in obese people with binge-eating specifically. This study suggests that depression and/or binge eating may be mediating factors for the outcome of obesity.

ÖZETBu araştırma, Gazi Üniversitesi Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Yüksekokulu öğrencilerinin sağlık alışkanlıklarını, ilaç ve ergojenik yardımcılar ile ilgili kullanım bilgilerini ölçmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın örneklemini, Gazi Üniversitesi Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Yüksekokulu öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Öğrencilere 16 sorudan oluşan bir anket uygulanmıştır. Anketleri, yaşları 17-28 aralığında olan ve 126'sı bayan, 174'ü erkek, beden eğitimi öğretmenliği bölümünden 60, antrenörlük eğitimi bölümünden 120 ve spor yöneticiliği bölümünden 120 kişi olmak üzere toplam 300 öğrenci, 2005 yılı güz döneminde yanıtlamıştır. Uygulanan anketler sonucunda, araştırma grubunun ilgilendikleri spor branşları, spor yaşları, uğraştıkları branşlardaki seviyeleri ve başarıları belirlenmiş, düzenli doktora gidip gitmedikleri, sağlık problemleri, ilaç kullanım bilgileri, sağlık güvence durumları ve doping kullanıp kullanmadıkları ve bu parametreler arasındaki ilişki incelenmiştir. 2 yönlü tablolarda ki-kare testi hesaplanarak olguların bağımsızlık testleri yapılmıştır. Yine 2 yönlü tablolardan yararlanılarak hesaplanan oranlar z-testi ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda 300 öğrencinin % 87'sinin düzenli doktora gittiği, %14'ünün ilaç kullanımını gerektiren bir sağlık probleminin bulunduğu, çoğu aktif olarak spora devam eden öğrencilerin % 14.5'inin ergojenik yardım aldığı ve 3 kişinin de yasaklı madde kullandığı ortaya çıkmıştır. Yapılan istatistikler sonucunda, cinsiyet ve düzenli doktora gitme (p<0,05), cinsiyet ve ilaç kullanım (p<0,01) oranları arasındaki fark istatistiksel olarak önemli bulunmuştur.Anahtar Kelimeler: Öğrenciler, Ergojenik yardımcılar, Doping, Sağlık, Spor DETERMINATION OF GAZI UNIVERSITY PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORT DEPARTMENT'S STUDENTS' KNOWLEDGE AND USAGE STATUS OF THE ERGOGENIC AIDS AND DOPING ABSTRACTThis research was carried out to determine ergogenic aids and doping knowledge and using up status of Gazi University Physical Education and Sport Department student. For this purpose, total of 300 students (126 female, 174 male) average age between 17 and 28 old. The qestionre which consist of 16 query, apply in 2005. According to results, some subjects who are medalist from %0.3 Olympics, % 8.6 World and Europen Level and %11 International Level, have different sports activities. The others are regional levels. It was found that most of subjects (% 85,3) did not use any ergogenic aids. Elite athletes which take ergogenic aids, generally prefer %9.3 vitamine, %1 protein, %0.6 cocaine, %0.3 testesteron, %0.3 creatin, % 3 other supplements. The conclusion of research, there were significiant differences in orderly doctor controls between male and female students (p<0,05). In additions, significant difference were also observed in the values of taking ergogenic aids between male and female (p<0,01).
