The Covid-19 pandemic has affected human behavior. It brings changes in many aspects of life that staying at home becomes a new normal. People do physical distancing to stay safe and healthy. Employees work from home to remain productive as professional responsibilities to the company. Sustainable design has been a trend in office design. The basic idea of sustainability is to reduce the negative impact on environment and health by creating a design that empathizes with its surroundings. When physical distancing is applied in layout furniture, it reshapes the office design. This topic is interesting to discuss since companies consider to increase hygiene standards while designers prepare the new concept for office design in the post Covid-19. The collected data contained information that needs to be considered in developing the interior for a workspace. The data obtained were from various sources related to this Covid-19 pandemic. This research was conducted through descriptive research, in which the collected data described the phenomenon studied around the world and how designers prepared for the new normal for office design. Based on the study, it is expected to determine the new working standards for office design and explain them to interior design students as the course material in interior design subject in designing for public space.
Indonesia has lots of colonial heritage buildings, scattered in several cities. One of the old buildings is in Lasem city, not only functioning as residential, but also as a batik business place. Problem statement of this research is how colonial old residential building has sustainable system? The objective of this research are to know what kind of sustainable system applied in old colonial building, and to know how Lasem old building analysed by Vitruvius theory. This research is using qualitative method, using one Lasem colonial residential as a study case. The house as will be analysed whether it meets the requirements as sustainable building, or it also meets the criteria of a good building according to Vitruvius theory by meeting the firmity, utility and venustas. The result of this study, this building is both a sustainable building and also meets what is contained in Vitruvius theory.
Balinese cosmological beliefs have become a very important foundation in Balinese lives, including architecture. Balinese architecture does not simply consist of physical and natural materials, it also seeks balance and propriety. It needs to be in a harmonious balance relationship between humans with humans, humans with their natural surroundings, and humans with God or known as Tri Hita Karana. This study tries to apply this concept that is usually used in architecture, within an interior space with a children’s creativity hub in Kuta, Bali as a study case through the qualitative method. The result of this study proposed a design concept ‘Jelajah Riang’ a concept that is suitable for the function of the space and can be embedded with Tri Hita Karana as well as Tri Loka concept, with three rooms used as a sample; the break room, dancing studio as well as painting and drawing studio. In these three rooms, not only the activities designed suitable to those concepts but also the interior elements, such as wall and floor finishes, lighting, ventilation, and so on
Batak Toba traditional house is one of the architectural treasures of the archipelago. Traditional Batak Toba House Architecture is a vernacular architecture that grows and develops from the local wisdom of ethnic communities and anchors on tradition, and is built by craftsmen based on experience (trial and error), using local techniques and materials and is an answer to the environmental settings where the building is located and always open to transformation. When building a Batak Toba traditional house, local people still understand the natural environment around the ecosystem. But in its current development, Batak Toba traditional community homes have undergone many changes, both in the form, space and use of ornaments and building materials. As a step so that the traditions of local wisdom are not extinct, it is necessary to preserve and apply the traditional forms and ornaments to the architecture of the Catholic Church as an effort to sustain the traditional architecture.
