In order to develop quality pedagogical processes to alleviate the negative effects of the Cov19 pandemic, as the loss of interest in school subjects -caused by accessibility difficulties and lack of resources to purchase equipment and internet services, and to take advantage of the positive effects of online educational modality, as flexibility and housework, it is necessary to have valid and reliable instruments with which the information can be collected. This document presents the validation of a survey to contrast pre-pandemic online and face-to-face education. Beginning with the evaluation of the judgment of experts and teachers for preparation and proposal, which according to the methodology, was administered for a self-evaluation of university students in three areas of knowledge, and consisting of four different dimensions: attitudes during the Covid19 pandemic, applications of ICTs in education, problems when studying online, and exploration of face-to-face education The results show that it is a valid and reliable instrument to measure the four aspects described.
To implement corrective and supportive measures, this educational research is carried out to identify the presence of risky levels of depression, anxiety and / or stress and to evaluate its possible influence on the high rates of failure and drop out of the students of Systems Engineering Computational and Biochemical Engineering. One of the objectives of National Technological Institute of Mexico (TecNM) is to apply teaching strategies that allow a high degree of learning, less dropout and a higher degree of graduation from competent professionals. Applying a systematic stratified random sampling, 262 students were chosen who participated by answering previously assessed surveys (Cronbach's alpha between 0.78 and 0.914). Both programs usually show high rates of failure and low terminal efficiency. Preliminary results show high stress rates and average anxiety in the first grades, this is previously unknown for most of the students; Anxiety and depression presented slight differences between freshman students and the ones of last semesters, without considering that these factors could be determining in their academic performance, the students agree that these problems affect their academic performance, in terms of failure and turn out to be a factor to cause dropout. Objective: to correlate the results obtained in the applied surveys referred to know the degree of depression, anxiety and / or stress among the students of 2 different degrees with their level of academic performance. Methodology.- A stratified random sampling was applied to students of Biochemical Engineering and Computer Systems Engineering. 4 surveys were applied to determine anxiety, stress, depression and influence on their academic performance, the data were analyzed using predetermined scales and the Chi square test to find out the correlation between the mentioned variables. Contribution.- Levels of anxiety, stress and depression were detected in Engineering students and their correlation regarding the affectation in their academic performance, factors to be taken into consideration to avoid failure and desertion.
The COVID-19 health emergency has brought a new and unforeseen situation in education in Mexico and around the world. This report shows the results of an online survey applied to high school (CETYS abbreviated in Spanish) and bachelor degree (TecNM abbreviated in Spanish) students at the Mérida and Tuxtla Gutiérrez campus. Out of 846 students, 501 answered the survey. Most of them live in municipal seat, some of them in rural communities 28.5 are high school students and 71.5% are bachelor degree students. 48.1% of students responded that they would not like to continue receiving classes online and 44.1% that in this modality their learning was the same as face -to- face lessons. They face organizational, technological, pedagogical and, to a lesser extent, information issues. They mainly use the WhatsApp application as well, as Microsoft Teams for synchronous work and virtual interviews, they consider it suitable for their virtual sessions. The responses to the coverage of the educational program were similar, the fifth part reached between 90 and 100%; The students showed irregularities during the setting of this educational modality and the main problem was the failure of the Internet connection, and the least was the lack of sensitivity of the teacher. Objectives: Need to obtain information on the opinion of students regarding their academic development during the school period that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic, that would allow knowing the problems they are facing and proposing alternatives to support students Methodology:A survey was applied to undergraduate and high school students to find out their opinion regarding their problems in school development, the data were analyzed using predetermined scales and the SPSS program to determine the possible correlation between the mentioned variables. Contribution: Problems related to student performance were verified, most have their own computer and have internet service, they still do not adapt to taking virtual classes and express disapproval to continue with this form of learning, factors to be taken into consideration in the immediate future.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
