Airway narrowing on FB is noted frequently after infant cardiac surgery. Overall assessment and presence of narrowing on bronchoscopy had poor sensitivity and specificity for EF in our cohort. Expert assessment of tracheobronchial narrowing on FB has poor to moderate inter-rater reliability.

This survey suggests significant variation in the management of hyperglycemia across the UK Practice varies even among intensivists from the same unit, reflecting the fact that few units have 'an agreed written guidance in place.' The majority of intensivists would be prepared to participate in a trial of tight glycemic control.

This study supports an association between early BG profile and mortality in children admitted to PICU, with increased survival in those who demonstrate a fall in BG on day 1 relative to PICU admission. These findings are consistent with a survival advantage of intact BG homeostasis.
