ASVS, which is procedurally simpler than transhepatic pancreatic venous sampling, is effective for localizing sources of hyperinsulinism not detected with preoperative morphologic studies.
We accept the hypothesis that freehand real-time MRI-guided lumbar spinal injection procedures are feasible, accurate, and safe when performed with a clinical open-bore 1.5-T MRI system. We note that real-time MRI guidance has the additional advantage of a complete absence of patient and operator exposure to ionizing radiation.
A 12-month-old infant presented with cerebral seizures and neurological deficits. MRI scan of the brain and angiography showed massive cerebral venous sinus thrombosis complicated by a dural arteriovenous fistula. Subsequent clotting analysis revealed a protein S deficiency. Screening for inherited coagulation inhibitor deficiency is recommended in children with unexplained or atypical thrombotic events.
