Abstract:This review summarizesemergingand re-emergingmajor bacterial, fungal, viral and protozoan causes of abortion in cattle. The clinical presentations of disease due to reproductive pathogens are emphasized, with afocus on assisting development of complete lists of major causes that result in abortion in cattle. Clinicians areencouraged to assess clinical presentation, create complete lists of differential diagnoses, obtain appropriate diagnostic samples, maximize diagnostic laboratory support, and avoid zoonotic infections resulting from reproductive pathogens of animals. Thefoundation of an accurate diagnosis of reproductive loss due to infectious pathogens facilitates the prudent use of immunization andbiosecurity to minimize reproductive losses.
Nasal schistosomiasis is caused by the blood fluke Schistosoma nasale (S. nasalis) adversely affects the health and production of domestic livestock in various parts of India. The present report describes the occurrence of S. nasale infection in two Hallikar breed bullocks of Union Territory of Puducherry. Eggs of S. nasale were noticed in nasal washings/scrapings of animals and identified as per the standard taxonomical keys.
For studying the effect of accelerated feeding method on growth and carcass traits thirty male kids (aged 30 -45 days) of Tellicherry breed were divided into two groups, control (C) and test (T) groups. The control group kids were fed with concentrate feed consisting of 15% crude protein (CP) and 75% Total Digestible Nutrient (TDN). The test group kids were fed with concentrate feed containing of 21% crude Protein (CP) and 75% Total Digestible Nutrient (TDN). Significant (P less than 0.01) increase in body weight in average total body weight gain and average daily body weight were observed in both groups. Cost of production per kg live weight gain significantly (P less than 0.0001) reduced. High significant difference (P less than 0.01) was noticed in pre slaughter weight, carcass weight, dressed weight, dressing percentage, weight of stomach, head and liver. The present study concluded that feeding the kids with high protein level along with mineral mixure had significantly increased the body weight gain, growth performance, dressing percentage, carcass yield and quality.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
