Health care traditionally focuses on the individual and not the family unit. Models of care for those infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) may not successfully meet the needs of a family where more than one member is infected. This article examines whether family-centred care provides an appropriate model for the organization and delivery of quality care to families affected by HIV.
