Sustainability is a topic that has been addressed and enhanced with significant improve opportunities by the fourth industrial revolution, which is an essential strategy in the medium- and long-term for industries to adapt to an urgent necessity from society: for competitive and sustainable manufacturing of goods. In that regard, energy efficiency is one of the key aspects for industries that want to achieve a sustainable and carbon neutral production process. This paper approaches how the application of technologies and methodologies can substantially improve processes overall efficiency in terms of energy consumption. The paper is divided in a three-step research, starting with: a systematic review to identify how smart manufacturing and cyber-physical systems are leveraging results in manufacturing energy efficiency; followed by experiments to make real time monitoring and simulation of industrial energy consumption to optimize processes and reduce energy waste and as a third and final step results are discussed showing gains in production planning and potential saving opportunities in manufacturing energy consumption and costs.
In the globalized economic scenario, the ability to adapt to the flexibility of demand is crucial for the longevity of companies. In this context, industrial logistics has a key function in production flexibility. To meet this urging need, the concept of industry 4.0 brings along the use of IoT (Internet of things). Considering the importance of industrial logistics on the flexibilization of production lines, this present research presents a systematic literature review through the application of the PROKNOW-C method (Knowledge Development Process – Constructivist) aiming to understand the use of IoT (Internet of Things) in industrial logistics. The findings can be summarized by four strategical elements that should be leveraged in the decision making process by any company willing to implement IoT in industrial logistics as key factors for implementation success: clear process definition, implementation planning, people training and standardization.
ABSTRACTCurrently, many initiatives happen in isolation while still very focused on buildings and homes for a more basic application like washing cars, clothes and toilets, but the potential goes way beyond that. Rainwater harvesting is still a technique that can greatly contribute to water scarcity caused by industrialization and population growth. The research addresses the problem of freshwater limitation in Curitiba and the metropolitan region, where the situation is classified as "Quali-quantitative Criticality". The main objective of the research is to demonstrate the water availability of the region and the drinking water consumption of a metallurgical company located in Fazenda rio grande, Paraná, with interest in implementing rainwater harvesting, and the critical points for the use of this water in its area. process. The research was structured using the systemic literature review methodology, with the main objective of validating the relevance of the theme reinforcing that it is a global concern. Through ...
Single point incremental sheet forming stands out mainly by using traditional CNC machines to produce small batches of parts or customized products. Thus, any excessive force in the process may compromise the integrity of the machining center or even damage the component itself, limiting its formability. Hence, this work presents the design of experiments to investigate the behavior of mechanical forming forces and optimize the process. The main goal was to build a mathematical function by regression analysis that best represents the theoretical model. The equation proposed here allows to locate and estimate the maximum effort F z_peak based on five input parameters: tool diameter; wall angle; sheet thickness; vertical step size; and tool feed rate. At the same time, determine the set of data that maximize the required formability. The test was carried out using a carbide coated tool K40 and a commercial sheet steel ASTM A653 CS-A G90. The following were found: the feed rate is not significant and can be maximized to reduce production time; the tool diameter and wall angle are significant, and they have a slight influence on the forces and both depends on the design area; the vertical step size is significant and the most important parameter to leveling the process to reach maximum formability. Finally, the sheet thickness is obviously significant; however, it is also specified by the design.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
