Highlights Development of best synthesis process for TiO 2 catalyst using ultrasound. Lower particle size and uniform morphology can be obtained using ultrasound. Performance of catalytic activity evaluated for the desulfurization of thiophene. UV and US in combination with oxidant/catalyst gives best treatment approach. Role of solvent in affecting desulfurization of thiophene demonstrated.
