An analysis of the sonograms of 60 patients with a surgically confirmed diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy was performed. In 36 examinations, both real‐time and static images were compared, and real‐time was judged superior in 22 based on a correlation between the original report and surgical pathology. The appearance of the endometrial canal and the adnexa was characterized in a total of 65 scans. The endometrial canal appearance was variable, with the most common finding being a linear echo (39%). The adnexal changes were less diverse, with an adnexal ring suggestive of an extrauterine gestational sac identified in 60%. In 10 cases, the adnexal ring contained a distinct fetus with a measurable crown–rump length, and cardiac activity was evident in six. Our results indicate that real‐time ultrasound coupled with serum β‐hCG RIA should be the procedure of choice when ectopic pregnancy is suspected.
The purpose of the study was to determine what effect modifications to American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines produce when taking blood pressures with an automatic device. Eight blood pressure measurements were taken at least 2 minutes apart; two with standard AHA guidelines and six with modifications. Findings of this study suggest tbat elevation of the arm can have a significant effect on both the systolic and dlas
Forty-one wild raccoons (Procyon lotor) were captured in Kentucky (USA) and immobilized with 7 to 16 mg/kg of ketamine hydrochloride, January to May 1987. Eight raccoons had muscle tremors in response to ketamine, but recovered with no other observable adverse effects. Mean (+/- SD) induction and duration of immobilization times were 3.2 +/- 1.8 and 42.3 +/- 14.5 minutes, respectively. Based on multiple regression analysis, the interaction of sex (P = 0.0030), body mass (P = 0.0036), dose (P = 0.0159), and the interaction of sex x dose (P = 0.0030) and body mass x dose (P = 0.0021) had a significant effect on the duration of raccoon immobilization.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
