In this paper, a linearly polarized half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) U-slot antenna is proposed. It is based on a combination of U-shaped slot etched in the HMSIW top wall and two shorts placed in this slot. Thanks to this configuration, a linearly polarized antenna with maximum radiation in the normal direction is obtained. The antenna is designed for the operating frequency band of 10 GHz with help of CST Microwave Studio. Experimental results prove that the antenna with a HMSIW-to-GCPW (grounded coplanar waveguide) transition radiates linearly polarized electromagnetic wave and achieves the impedance bandwidth of 3.2 % for reflection coefficient less than -10 dB and gain of 6.01 dBi.
In this paper, a polarization reconfigurable U-slot half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) antenna with left handed circular polarization (LHCP) and linear polarization (LP) is proposed. Switching between LHCP and LP is carried out by shorting the slot. The antenna is designed for the operating frequency of 10 GHz, fabricated and experimentally verified. Experimental results proves that the fabricated prototype of proposed antenna reaches very good performance.
