Introduction: There is a significant association between psychiatric diseases and esophageal disorders. The upper esophageal sphincter (UES) function may be affected by psychiatric diseases. This study aims to evaluate the correlation between psychiatric symptoms (anxiety and depression) and UES pressure. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed data from 200 adult patients (median age 41 (34-53) years; 47% males). All patients underwent high-resolution esophageal manometry and ambulatory pH monitoring. UES basal pressure (UESP) was measured at the beginning of the test at the point of maximum pressure as an average of a period of 20 seconds after a period of adaptation. Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) was used to evaluate the presence of anxiety and depressive symptoms. Results: Median UESP was 80 (56-108) mmHg. There were 53 (26%) hypotonic (51% female, median age 43 (34-51) years), 100 (50%) normotonic (53% female, median age 42 (35-53) years) and 47 (23%) hypertonic (53% female, median age 38 (32-52) years) UES. There was no difference in HADS scores among groups. There was no correlation between UESP and HADS scores Conclusion: UESP does not correlate with minor psychiatric disorders.
Objective: To identify among pediatric surgeons across Brazil how the transition of pediatric patients to adult clinics is carried out. Methods: A questionnaire was emailed to pediatric surgeons registered with the Associação Brasileira de Cirurgia Pediátrica in 2018. The data assessed included training time, maximum age of care, subspecialty of practice, outpatient follow-up of adult patients, reason for continuing care of adult patients, referral to adult specialties, concern with transition of care, and what has been done to improve it. Results: Most pediatric surgeons had more than 20 years of experience, and approximately 61% worked simultaneously at a public hospital, private hospital and private office. The maximum age of care at public, private hospitals and private offices proved to be quite varied. The follow-up of patients aged over 18 years at public hospitals, private hospitals and private clinics wase 32%, 23.58% and 20.75%, respectively. The main reason for patients aged over 18 years continued to be accompanied by pediatric surgeons was lack of knowledge about the disease by adult specialties. Most patients were referred to the adult specialty of the hospital, and roughly 37% of pediatric surgeons responded that they were in contact with the adult specialty. Most believed in autonomy of care of their patients and were concerned with transition of care. Conclusion: Transition of care is a relevant issue that needs to be studied and debated to ensure an appropriate long-term follow-up.
CuZn coatings were obtained from cyanide-free electrodeposition solutions, pH 6.6, containing graphite particles (2 µm) dispersed on them. The aim is to obtain CuZn metal-matrix composites with lubricating graphite particles as the dispersed phase. These composites, obtained by electrodeposition are called electrocomposites. They can be considered self-lubricating. Surface morphological analysis of these deposits reveal a compact fine-grained layer and above this a 7 ARTICLE TH 56 Self-lubricating metal-matrix composite CuZn-graphite coatings obtained by electrodeposition from near neutral solutions. Surface morphological analyses and chemical composition. poorly adherent coarse-grained one. The last is due to the presence of graphite particles in the solution, since this poorly adherent layer is not present in deposits obtained from free-of-graphite conditions. Only in few cases it was observed occlusion of graphite particles in the CuZn matrix. However, this occlusion occurs in the poorly adherent layer. Under the analyzed conditions of electrodeposition it was difficult to obtain CuZn-graphite electrocomposites. Regardless of graphite occlusion, chemical composition of CuZn matrix was affected by graphite dispersed in the electrodeposition solution. When comparing with CuZn matrix obtained from free-of-graphite conditions, graphite caused enrichment in Cu content of the matrix for all current densities.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
