In this paper, we investigated that display luminance and ambient illumination had significant effects on the perception of the imagery displayed, and their appropriate combination would be studied. The results showed display luminance and ambient illumination did not significantly influence on physiological fatigue. Ambient illumination statistically affected objective visual fatigue, but display luminance did not. Ambient illumination and display luminance significantly affected subjective comfort evaluation. However, the main effect of display luminance was statistically significant on visual discrimination performance, but ambient illumination was not significant. As for the combination effect of display luminance and ambient illumination, viewers felt the most comfortable and with the best visual performance in the high level of display luminance and the high level of ambient illumination. It is expected to find out the optimal condition to ensure the viewer's visual comfort. As for the future work, the dynamic image factor may be taken into account.
Abstract— Currently, the image quality of LCDs is examined subjectively by humans. There are no consistent rules for examining Mura, so it is necessary to develop an acceptable Mura standard between users and manufacturers. A Mura simulation experiment can establish the relationship between human visual perception and Mura phenomenon. The present study used several types and sizes of real Mura and subjects with different experiences to develop a starting point for examining Mura by the systematical approach of human factors. The objective in this study is to search the relationships between Mura characteristics and visual contrast thresholds. From the experimental results, Mura type, Mura size, and Mura location were the most important factors in the visual contrast threshold. A domestic Just Noticeable Difference model of the LCD industry was also constructed that could be used as an inspection criterion for LCD industry.
In the present study, some factors were considered such as the various types and sizes of real Mura, and Mura inspection experience. The steps of data collection and experiments were conducted systematically from the viewpoint of human factors. From the experimental results, Mura size was the most important factor on visual contrast threshold. The purpose of this research was to objectively describe the relationships between the Mura characteristics and visual contrast thresholds. Furthermore, a domestic JND model of LCD industry was constructed. This model could be an inspection criterion for LCD industry.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
