Allupurinol is a commonly prescribed drug. However, the use of this drug is not based on evidence and guidelines. We audited Allopurinol prescriptions in patients aged 65 years and over in a teaching hospital over 22 weeks. In 47% of patients the dose was higher than recommended and in 40% it was lower. Quality use of medications is an important issue to maintain quality of life in the elderly.
ExtractThis study reports the effect of varying specific parameters of mechanical ventilation on aortic PO, in six infants with severe respiratory distress syndrome. Twenty-seven studies were performed during the first 168 hours of mechanical ventilation. I n each study, arterial oxygen partial pressure was found to vary directly with airway pressure a n d inversely with respiratory rate. No correlation was found between rate and pressure, or PaO,, PaCO,, a n d p H a . Oxygenation of infants with severe respiratory distress syndrome can be significantly influenced by variation of specific parameters of mechanical ventilation independently of change in aortic carbon dioxide tension.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
