The aim of this paper is to describe a general methodology for testing the mobile network core with traffic generated from a simulated access-segment. A main element of this methodology is to derive load models and mobility models from real-life traffic patterns, and use these -as well as prerecorded protocol messages -in the process. The Evolved Packet Core (EPC) of Long Term Evolution (LTE) provides a good base for presenting practical elements of this methodology. This paper demonstrates the workflow of this methodology through a practical example of EPC load testing. This demonstration covers issues related to nodes and interfaces covered during such tests; dialogs used for session and mobility control; and crosscorrelating message flows that effect various elements across the architecture.
International audienceNowadays telecommunication operators which manage various network types are looking for convergence in different domains, from the access and aggregation to the core network. Moreover, in future 5G networks, the explosion of Internet of Things and the need of fixed and mobile convergence will imply strong requirements for more simplified and unified subscriber management. This will lead notably to seamless user experience when moving from a network to another. This paper proposes a pragmatic approach to operators for moving their networks smoothly to a really convergent subscriber data and session management system. It takes into account legacy mechanisms of subscriber management and introduces a universal Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) which aims at replacing progressively the legacy subscriber databases and helps in moving to a unified logical network element that will manage all subscriber's data and sessions. Combining the text-to-speech system MULTIVOX and Blissymbolics and adapting them to the special needs of disabled children, outlined by the Hungarian Bliss Foundation, a speaking communication program using Bliss symbols has been developed for DOS environment. The special characteristics of this program and the preliminary results of its use will be described.
