We synthesized or re-synthesized a large series of 2H-1,5-benzodioxepin-3(4H)-ones 9 (Scheme 1), 4,5-dihydro-1-benzoxepin-3(2H)-ones 10 (Schemes 3 and 4) and 5,6,8,9-tetrahydro-7H-benzocyclohepten-7-ones 11 (Schemes 5 and 6), since the lead compound for the olfactory note of perfumes based on marine accords is a well-known benzodioxepinone named Calone 1951 (9b). We meticulously described the odor profile of each synthesized compound and discussed relevant structure -odor relationships (Tables 1 -3). In particular, we revealed a correlation between the conformation of the seven-membered ring and the activities of these compounds (Table 4 and Fig. 3). We also clarified the effect of the position and the size of the alkyl substituent at the aromatic ring.
The mass spectrometric fragmentation of a series of diols having the general formula HO-(CH2).-OH with n=2-11 has been studied. Extensive labelling of n-bntane-1,4 diol and n-hexane-1,6 diol with deuterium allows fragmentation modes to be proposed. The labelling reveals that intramolecular exchange of H atoms often precedes the fragmentation and becomes more important when the length of the chain increases.La fragmentation d'une sCrie de diols aliphatiques de formule gCnCrale HO-(CHJn-OH avec n=2-11 a CtC CtudiCe B l'aide de molCcules marqukes avec du deutCrium. The concept of programmatic assessment (PA) is well described in the literature; however, studies on implementing and operationalizing this systemic assessment approach are lacking. The present case study developed a local instantiation of PA, referred to as Assessment System Fribourg (ASF), which was inspired by an existing program. ASF was utilized for a new competency-based undergraduate Master of Medicine program at the State University of Fribourg. ASF relies on the interplay of four key principles and nine main program elements based on concepts of PA, formative assessment, and evaluative judgment. We started our journey in 2019 with the first cohort of 40 students who graduated in 2022. This paper describes our journey implementing ASF, including the enabling factors and hindrances that we encountered, and reflects on our experience and the path that is still in front of us. This case illustrates one possibility for implementing PA.
Mass spectrometric study of a series of alkane‐α,ω‐diphthalimides
Alkane‐α,ω‐diphthalimides with three to seven aliphatic C‐atoms were synthesized and their mass spectral behaviour investigated in detail with the aid of the deuteriated derivatives of hexane‐1,6‐diphthalimide. Besides the expected hydrogen rearrangements, an interesting skeletal rearrangement has been observed.
