Two new species of the water scavenger beetle genus Berosus Leach are described from southern Brazil: B. spiniger sp. n. is placed in the auriceps-complex and B. degallieri sp. n. is placed in the sticticus-complex. Tables with diagnostic characters are provided for all described species in both of these complexes.
The first stygobiontic diving beetle known from Laos, Laodytes lapiei n. gen., n. sp., is described from a cave located in the Vientiane province. Its morphological characters lead to its placement, among Hydroporinae, in Hydroporini. Inside these, the new species could not be assigned to an existing genus. As a result, a new genus has been defined without it being possible, at the present stage, to assign it to one of the currently recognized subtribes.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
