Persistent symptomatic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a distinct clinical entity among patients with hematologic malignancies and/or profound immunosuppression. The optimal medical management is unknown. We describe 2 patients with symptomatic COVID-19 for almost 6 months who were successfully treated in the ambulatory setting with extended courses of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir.
We surveyed healthcare professionals at a cancer center regarding their knowledge and perceptions of antibiotic use. Most knew the term “antimicrobial stewardship.” Nurses and other staff were less likely than pharmacists or providers to answer knowledge-based questions correctly. Opportunities exist to improve antibiotic knowledge among cancer center staff.
