Antimicrobial property of Nelumbo nuciferawas evaluated. Flower and seed pod of Nelumbo nuciferawas collected, and identified. Morphologically, flowers were pink colored with smooth texture and seeds were dark brown. Powdered plant material was extracted by maceration method in ethanol. Ethanolic Extract of Flowers and seeds were dark brown, semisolid and percentage yields were 15.52 and 36.75% respectively. Various phytochemical tests were revealed that the carbohydrates and glycosides, proteins and free amino acids, fixed oils and fats, steroids and triterpenoids were present in both extracts. Antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH assay, the IC50 were calculated. Antimicrobial testing were performed against Gram positive (Staphylococcus Aureus) and Gram negative bacteria (Pseudomonas Aeruginosa) and strain of fungus (C. Albicans and A. Niger). Antimicrobial activities were estimated by disk diffusion method. It was observed that extract of flowers was more effective but extract of Seeds was less effective against Staphylococcus Aureus and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Cefotaxime was used as standard. Extract of flowers was equally effective against candida albicans and Aspergilusniger but extract of seeds was not effective against both fungal strains.
Cisplatin and other platinum derivatives like carboplatin and oxaliplatin are widely used chemotherapeutic agents used in the treatment of solid tumors including head and neck, ovarian and testicular germ cell tumors. Cisplatin is also used successfully in the treatment of paediatric malignancies, such as medulloblastoma and osteogenic sarcoma. In most recent treatment schedules, the drug is used in combination with other cytotoxic agents such as otoposide, doxorubicine, paclitaxel, 5-fluorouracil, gemcitabine, vinblastine, bleomycin and others. It is one of on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, the most effective and safe medicines needed in health system. This comprehensive review highlights the physicochemical properties of cisplatin and related platinum based drugs, uses of platinum, either alone or in combination with other drugs for the treatment of various human cancers and also discuss about various Potential protective strategies against cisplatin-induced cytotoxicities. A special attention is given to it’s molecular mechanisms of action, historical background, undesirable side effects & future prospective. Keywords: Cisplatin, cytotoxicity, cis-diamminedichloroplatinum.
Purpose: Herbs and spices have been used in maintaining and enhancing human beauty since time immemorial. Nowaday’s people prefer natural food, herbal medicines, and natural curing practices for a healthy life. Herbal cosmetics are the preparations, which represent cosmetics associated with active bioactive ingredients or pharmaceuticals. The present paper deals with the study of herbal cosmetics used for skin and hair care and the collection of data among the consumers of the Gwalior region. Methods: The survey was conducted with the help of a questionnaire provided to each consumer, and answers were collected, and data were analyzed on 100 people of both the sex and different age group of the Gwalior Region. Result: The results reveal that 67.50% were the consumers of herbal cosmetic products from the total number of populations. Among the consumers, 56% were female, and 44% of the total consumers in the study were male. The variation among the age group was also included in the study and the results showed that the age group of 20-30 years was the highest percentage of consumers i.e., 62%. Conclusion: This study concluded that the usage of herbal cosmetics has been increased to many folds in the personal care system, and there is a great demand for herbal cosmetics among people.
Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Potential of Tinospora Cordifolia were performed by In-vitro Methods. For this study stem of plant Tinospora cordifolia where collected and dried under shade. Morphological characteristics and Physio-chemical parameters of Tinospora cordifolia stem were investigated. Plant materials were extracted by Soxhlet extraction method then Pharmacognostical evaluation of extract was subjected to various phytochemical tests for preliminary identification of various phytoconstituents. The free radicals scavenging potential of standard and extract tested by DPPH method are depicted in with a characteristic absorption at 517nm. Effects of methanolic extract of Tinospora cordifolia was evaluated against gram positive (S. aureus) and gram-negative (E. coli) bacteria and antifungal activity was obtained against Candida Albicans and Aspergilus Niger. Antimicrobial activities were estimated by disk diffusion method. Antimicrobial activities of methanolic extract of stem of tinospora were evaluated in the term of zone of inhibition. Methanolic steam extract of Tinospora cordifolia was significantly against both gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and gram-negative bacteria (E. coli). it was observed that the extract was not significantly effective against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria, while, Methanolic stem extract of Tinospora cordifolia was more effective against Candida Albicans and A niger. Keyword: Tinospora cordifolia, antioxidant, Antimicrobial,
The efficiency of turmeric fractions, such as petroleum ether, chloroform, benzene, methanol and aqueous were evaluated for their inhibitory effect on clinical and standard strains of pathogenic bacteria and fungus. The methanolic fraction of Curcuma longa rhizome had high potential to inhibit some pathogenic bacteria i.e. S. aureus to a greater degree than other fractions of Curcuma longa. In our study the results show that the different fractions (petroleum ether, methanol etc.) of Curcuma longa rhizome were more effective antimicrobial agents than the crude extract of Curcuma longa. Methanolic extract of curcuma longa was evaluated against gram positive and gram-negative bacteria. The bacteria isolates include Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli. Antimicrobial activities were estimated by Well diffusion method and antifungal activity was evaluated against Candida Albicans and Aspergillus Niger. The results were pointed as the methanol extract was more effective on both bacteria and fungus then water also similar effective on both bacteria and fungus but against Aspergillus Nigerit has outstand results. Keywords: Curcuma longa, Phytochemical, Antimicrobial, Free radical, Scavenging Potential
