Aldercy Early Childhood Education (PAUD) is a kindergarten located in Kadipiro, Banjarsari, Surakarta City, Central Java. During the pandemic, students must be able to implement health protocols and maintain dental and oral health by brushing their teeth properly. PAUD teachers can become cadres for their students to provide education and training on those issues. The purpose of this activity is to carry out one of the components of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely community service. The benefits of this activity are forming cadres, namely Aldercy PAUD teachers, so they can provide education about health protocols during a pandemic and dental and oral health for students at Aldercy PAUD. The method of service is lectures and training on health protocols during a pandemic and dental and oral health. The target audience was 12 Aldercy PAUD teachers. The results showed that this activities ran smoothly and participants were enthusiastic. Aldercy The participants were also trained to become dental and oral health cadres. The participants are expected to provide education regarding oral health protocols to their students, as well as maintain the program by supervising and fostering health protocols during the pandemic and maintaining oral and dental health.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of adipose derived mesenchymal stem cell (ADSC) on the regeneration of irradiated mandible submitted to distraction osteogenesis on adult rabbits. Methods: Ten adult rabbits were selected and the dorsal fat penicle was harvested culture of mesenchymal stem cells. The mandibles were irradiated on a dose of 20 Gy. After 30 days the animals underwent mandibular distraction osteogenesis. The animals were divided in two groups. On the control group (CG) saline solution was injected and on the study group (SG) ADSC (106) was injected. After the 4 weeks the mandibles were removed and evaluated by tomography and histomorphometric. The specimens were prepared with for histology evaluation. Histomorphometric were analysed on imageJ program and statistic analysis by Mann-Whitney test (P > 0.05). Findings: The tomography shows a significant improvement on Hounsfield scale for lateral fibrovascular zone (114.5 ± 9.7 CG to 148 ± 24; P = 0.0045 SG) and central fibrovascular zone (37 ± 13.4 CG to 96 ± 41.8 SG; P = 0.0045). The histomorphometric analysis demonstrated an increase in the mineralised bone. The area achieved was of 61.2 ± 9.9% in the SG and 31.3 ± 10.6% in the CG (P = 0.0045) for the central fibrovascular zone, 79.1 ± 9.1% in the SG and 39.1 ± 14.7 on CG of anterior fibrovascular zone (P = 0.0001) and 67.7 ± 12.9% in the SG and 38.4 ± 12.9% in CG in posterior fibrovascular zone. Conclusion: The injection of ADSC was able to improve bone regeneration distraction callus on irradiated mandible.
Abstract. Smoking is the main risk factor for developing oral cancer. The previous study showed that there was a strong correlation between the length of smoking with the risk to develop oral cancer. Early detection of epithelial changes of oral mucosa will be a good prevention of the incidence of oral cancer among active smokers. This study evaluated the potential use of buccal swab for the screening of early signs of malignancy in active smokers. This study involved 80 participants including those who were smokers and non smokers. The buccal swab was conducted using sterile cytobrush. An epithelial smear was made from the buccal swab and stained with Papanicolaou's technique. An cytomorphometric analysis was conducted by comparing the ratio of nuclear cell to cytoplasmic diameter (ND/CD) between the two groups. The mean of ND observed in this study were 8.963µ for active smokers and 7.991µ for non smokers groups. While the mean of CD were 58.249µ and 63.473µ for active smoker and non-smoker respectively. The mean of ND/CD ratio were 0.156 for active smokers and 0.129 for non smokers groups. This study detected a significant difference on the ND/CD ratio among active smokers vs non smokers (p<0.0001; 95% CI = -0.040 --0.014). In conclusion buccal swab could be a routine procedure to obtain sample for identification of changes in cells morphology to screen an early development of oral cancer.
