Tribal seems to be most exploited and ignored people and hence are more vulnerable to malnutrition, disease and disorders, morbidity and mortality. Health and nutritional awareness is very important for prevention and treatment of diseases amongst farmers and rural mass. Both print and digital media are influencing medium for spreading health and nutritional awareness amongst farmers. Hence, it was found interesting to study the effect of media on health and nutritional awareness amongst the farmers of Khedbrahma taluka. Ten villages and total 120 farmers (60 male, 60 female) were randomly selected. An interview schedule was used for data collection. Statistical analysis of the data was carried out. From the present study it is concluded that both print and electronic media played important role on health and nutrition related awareness amongst the farmers of Khedbrahma taluka. However, electronic media especially mobile and internet are more preferred and found to be more useful in getting information on health and nutrition as compared to print media. Seventy five percent farmers showed medium level of health and nutrition related awareness availed through media. Sixty six percent farmers used to follow the information received form media. Large numbers of respondents (65%) agreed that they could bring changes in their lifestyle and dietary habits due to information received from media.
Number of studies have been conducted to assess the nutritional and health status of the anganwadi children but very less focus has been given to assess the nutritional status of anganwadi workers. AW are actually the main resource person of the ICDS program. For the better outcome of ICDS services it is expected that the anganwadi workers should have a healthy nutritional status. The present study was aimed to assess nutritional status of anganwadi workers of Palanpur taluka of Banaskantha district. For the present study two hundred anganwadi workers were selected by simple random sampling method. Personal interview technique was used for collecting data on personal and socio-economic characteristics and dietary pattern. Nutritional status of AW was determined on the basis of anthropometric measurement, clinical examination and dietary assessment. The data obtained from the study was statistically analysed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and correlation coefficient. Anthropometric indices revealed that among the whole population fifty per cent anganwadi workers of Palanpur taluka had normal nutritional status and only few workers were severely malnourished. Age of anganwadi workers showed highly significant positive correlation with nutritional status and housing condition of anganwadi workers showed significant positive correlation with nutritional status.
Junk food is the food that is served at fast food outlets, quickly and easily processed and prepared but lack in essential nutrients with dense in calories. Such junk foods are having poor nutritive value and are not healthy. Looking to this, it was found essential to study awareness regarding health effects of junk food consumption amongst polytechnic students studying at polytechnic, Khedbrahma. All the students were purposively selected for the study. A questionnaire was used for data collection. Statistical analysis of the data was carried out. Results showed that students did not had clear idea about which foods can be considered as junk food. The level of awareness of health effects of junk food consumption among polytechnic students was checked and it was found that majority (68%) of them had medium knowledge, less than one fourth (18%) had low knowledge and only few (4%) were having high knowledge. Most of them (75.60 %) were interested in getting information about healthy snacks which can replace junk food.
